Remove GPS location from photos

Cameras can record latitude, longitude and altitude when location tagging is enabled. Valid coordinates can reveal where a photo was taken, including your home or workplace. Location values are hidden until you expand them. Cleaning removes supported source location metadata and other supported identifying fields using the selected format’s cleanup method. A GPS format version or timestamp alone does not establish a location.

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a supported photo and inspect its metadata.
  2. Expand location findings only if you want to see the recorded coordinates. GPSVersionID is a format version, not an IP address or location.
  3. Generate a clean copy and review the verified removals.
  4. Open the exported image and check visible landmarks, addresses and other identifying details.

A fictional before-and-after example

Before: A fictional photo stores GPSLatitude 12.3456 and GPSLongitude 76.5432.

After: Supported source GPS metadata is absent from the verified export.

Illustrative values. A street sign or recognisable building in the image remains visible. WebP preserves encoded pixels; supported HEIC exports PNG; JPEG/PNG are re-encoded.

Supported formats and processing budgets depend on the tool. View limits · Understand the limitations.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Before you check.

Are my coordinates sent to a map service?

No. There is no geocoding or map request. Coordinates are read and displayed only in your browser.

Does a clean copy mean my file is safe?

No. We remove only supported metadata and list what remains. Visible content and other unsupported information may still reveal private details.

Which files can I check?

JPG, JPEG, PNG, static WebP and supported HEIC photos; PDFs; DOCX, XLSX and PPTX Office files; and supported MP4/MOV videos. The screenshot editor accepts JPG, PNG and static WebP. Batches allow up to 10 files and 100 MB total. See Supported formats for each tool’s limits.
